Shipwreck2Deep Blue Marine Underwater Recovery experts have located a shipwreck laden with ancient treasure just off the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The Utah based company and real life treasure hunters have been focusing their attention in and around the Dominican Republic since 2007 with the blessing and support of the Dominican government. To date they have located 14 shipwrecks but this particular find could be the oldest yet and date back over 500 years. Deep Blue Marine have so far recovered gold coins, ancient Mayan jewelry and Jade statues, but believe that this is merely the tip of  the iceberg. Captain William Rawson's interest was sparked when they discovered an

elderly gentlemen selling what looked like a gold coin in a nearby Dominican town. After further research it turned out that the coin was one of the first ever minted in the New World, the term used to describe Christopher Columbus's discovery of the Americas on his famous voyage of 1492. This particular ship is thought to have sunk just a few years after the initial discovery of Hispaniola by Columbus and been pretty much left undisturbed since that time. Those of you with a passion for diving in the Dominican Republic should always keep an eye out for anything that glitters and glints in the waters here as the "Spanish Main" is said to be laden with literally tons of gold and silver from the many ships that perished due to heavy seas, storms and pirates that frequented these shores many centuries ago.
