AMResorts to invest US$400 million in Cap Cana
CAP CANA - AMResorts plans to build four luxury hotels in Cap Cana. The operator is part of the Apple Vacations group, owned by the legendary American family Mullen, responsible for bringing more than 50% of tourists to the area. The new resort will offer a combination of 1,100 suites and will generate 6,000 new jobs.At the launch of the project, Alex Zozaya, AMResorts president stressed "the commitment of AMResorts with the Dominican Republic as a destination of unparalleled beauty, wide range of activities and easy access for travelers from the United States, Latin America and several European countries. Cap Cana will give our guests the perfect formula for a luxury holiday."
Dominican media giant to cease business
The weekly newspaper Clave and its website Clave Digital will cease to operate from today, after its last edition will be printed and posted online.In a personal letter to the media, its director Fausto Rosario Adames, states that the publication of the paper and its online pages will cease until the economic situation in the country eases. He said that the last five years have been a memorable experience that allowed them to grow and refine the desired look to a country where there is less corruption, more fairness, more justice.
Cap Cana SA to issue US$20 million in bonds
The Securities Commission of the Dominican Republic (SVI) has announced the approval of a new issue of corporate bonds to the public to the tourism development company Cap Cana, SA. The US$20 million bond issue is aimed at legal entities, institutional investors, governmental entities, general public, both local and foreign investors.
The risk rating for the issuer of B-(Dom), and the issue is B (Dom) according to rating firm Fitch Dominicana, which indicate ability to pay principal and interest on the conditions and terms agreed.
2nd. White Marlin Cap Cana Fishing Tournament
Cap Cana - The 2nd White Marlin Cap Cana Fishing Tournament is taking place from June 17-19. It has been reported that so far this years fishing season has been slow, but with the change of the moon from the end of May, fishing for June and July looks more promising.
White Marlin, Blue Marlin, Wahoo and Dorado´s are the the prize catches and with water temperatures between 82-84ºF conditions could have never been more perfect.
To date a 9 year old boy has been the envy of many of the contestants in this event after breaking the Royal Billfish Slam achievement - Jack McCluskey had to accomplish by capturing no less than 9 distinctive species in their habitats and has done so in less than 10 months - this is a feat less than 100 people in the world have been able to achieve.

Fred Couples wins Cap Cana Championship
Cap Cana - American Fred Couples made history yesterday when he won in his debut appearance in the The Cap Cana Championship. Not only did he lift the trophy, he also bagged US$240,000 prize money. He also broke the course record, completeing his round in 62 stokres, 1 stroke less than Corey Pavins previous record of 63. A run of five birdies and another 4 were the winning combinationy for Couples who raced from third place early yesterday and eventually displace Corey Pavin and Nick Price.
US$400 Million to be invested in Cap Cana
Punta Cana - US company Apple Leisure Group and Cap Cana Group yesterday announced the start of construction of the resort called Cap Cana AT Gems (Jewels of Cap Cana), which includes construction of four modern and luxurious hotels with an investment exceeding US$ 400 million.The investment will be made by Apple Leisure Group, chaired by Mr John Mullen, while construction will be undertaken by the company AMResorts, whose chairman is Alex Zazaya.

March 22 to March 28 - The Cap Cana Championship is back for the 3rd consecutive year and this year hopes to be even better than the previous two.
This official PGA Champions Tour event, with a US$1.6 million purse, is being held at the Punta Espada signature design of Jack Nicklaus golf course. This course is already listed among the worlds finest, with even some golf magazines ranking it as the best golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico. Eight of its holes play along and over the sea and from every direction golfers can experience amazing views of the Caribbean.
Some of the players already confirmed for this years championship include - Keith Fergus (Defending champion) Bernhard Langer, Jay Haas, Jeff Sluman, Nick Price, Joey Sindelar, Tom Kite, Mark Wiebe, Hale Irwin, Corey Pavin, Wayne Levi, David Frost and Vicente Fernandez.
The Championship is being televised globally through the Golf Channel and subsidiaries

More jobs in tourism to be created
Punta Cana - Ernesto Veloz, President of the Hotel Association of Punta Cana, has announced that the tourist zone of Punta Cana generates around 35,000 jobs.
Last year, more than 1.8million tourists visited the area (Mainly from the US, Canada and Europe) and that there was a rise of 1.6% in new jobs created in the area and this is expected to rise during 2009/10.
