White Water Rafting

Heading out from the Puerto Plata, Sosua & Cabarete areas, you'll make your way on a comfortable transfer bus inland through Santiago to the beautiful region of the Dominican Republic known as Jarabacoa or the Dominican Alps. This is without doubt one of the most beautiful inland areas of the Dominican Republic. Once at the ranch you will have ample time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast washed down with lashings of Dominican coffee and also time to gather your thoughts and energy for the amazing adventure ahead. Each of you will be provided with a wetsuit and helmet & then you'll board the bus which will take you on a short drive to the entry point of the river. You willl be asigned a guide who will walk you through the techniques and drills required to get you safely through the day. Once on the river, you begin your decent one the Yaque del Norte river with your guide shouting clear instructions as to what you need to do ahead of each rapid. The thrill of conquering each rapid is an amazing feeling, as is the breathtaking beauty you'll see inbetween rapids. You'll have chance to swim in the more tranquil stretches of the river, and you'll make a snack-lunch stop half way down. We at TheRealDR have taken this tour many times and were in fact guinea pigs when this excursion first began some 20 years ago. Excursion Tips

• Have a good but light breakfast and take it easy the night before.
• Towels, swimsuits of course, and a spare T-shirt is never a bad idea.
• Take and use plenty of sunscreen before you go into the river.
• Take a baseball hat, you can wear it under your helmet on the river and it will help keep the glare from your eyes, plus you won't look like a dufus in the photos & video....
• Smokers, you can take cigarettes and a lighter with you, your guide has a waterproof container to put some items in, so you can enjoy a smoke during lunch.
• Take some spare cash with you as you will be able to buy neoprine water shoes at the ranch, good price, approximately U$10.00. You may also want to buy as disposable camera, photos or a DVD of your day as well as drinks and snacks over and above those provided on this tour. Generally on this excursion you will find yourself more than happy to tip your guide.
• Always remember to drink plenty of water to help keep you hydrated.
