Considered one of the more beautiful places to live and visit in the Dominican Republic, Cabrera is a relativly small town in the province of María Trinidad Sánchez about 15km east of Rio San Juan and appoximately 1.5hr drive from Puerto Plata´s International Airport.
Cabrera was originally named "Tres Amarras" when it was founded on July 1st, 1891 - but soon renamed itself in honor of General Jose Cabrera who was one of the heroes of the famous Capotillo Battle. Today the town is more or less self sufficient with its income being generated with the sales of dairy products, cattle and meat - and you will notice that as you leave Cabrera towards Nagua, there are also rice fields and a massive abundance of coconuts which also add to its income.

Cabrera is also famous for some of the beaches near the town - the most famous being Playa Grande, Playa Precioso, El Diamante and La Entrada. For those of you interested in real estate, Cabrera is a haven full of properties and plots of land alike and the attraction of the latest Robert Trent Jones golf course at Playa Grande and the general infrastructure of the area help to keep prices at a constant.
