Bahia Maimon (Riu Merengue, Riu Bachata and Riu Mambo Hotels). Still traversing in a westerly direction and past Cofresi lies the sleepy fishing village of Bahia Maimon. About a fifty minute journey from Gregorio Luperon International airport you will find the
Riu Hotel chain have built 3 truly 5 star hotels. The Riu Merengue , Riu Mambo and the newest hotel the Riu Bachata complete with in house casino. All 3 hotels have restaurants and service of the highest quality, friendly staff, and all are beach front located hotels. Those lucky enough to get an ocean front room will certainly never get bored of relaxing and looking out upon the palm tree laden beach and gently lapping waves. The hotels are all inclusive and are set amidst verdant tropical grounds. A short walk away from the hotels in a westerly wiggle will bring you out to a little beach market with local vendors selling handicrafts and wares. Make sure you haggle vociferously for every purchase made.

One excellent idea the Rius came up with, is that regardless of which of the 3 hotels you are staying in, you can eat and drink to your hearts content in any of the 3 hotels - with the only exception you must have your main evening meal in your appropriate hotel. You’re a little bit stuck out in the “woods” here, as apart from the hotels there is nothing much else to see and do so you should take full advantage of any excursion programmes offered to you (see The Real DR list of Excursions/Trips for ideas on planning your vacation). The 3 hotels usually offer a ‘free’ shuttle to the American Casino at Jack Tar hotel in Playa Dorada , once a week and the nearest town to you is Puerto Plata . Taxi’s are plentiful at the Riu hotels with a set tariff in each hotel reception.
