As predicted, Tomas has regained Hurricane status in the Caribbean Sea and is producing winds of 80mph. The 'Eye', of the storm is located some 175 miles west of Port Au Prince, Haiti and is moving towards the northeast at 9mph. A Hurricane Warning is still in place for Haiti as is the Tropical Storm Watch for the south coast of the Dominican Republic from the Haitian Border to Barahona.
OUTLOOK for The Dominican Republic Tomas is predicted to further strengthen over the next 24 hours. The main threat from Tomas is expected to be heavy rainfall that could cause life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides over Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Rainfall amounts between 5 to 10 inches are expected, with rainfall amounts up to15 inches possible in isolated spots.
