The opening game of Group D in the Women's World Volleyball Championship hosted by Japan saw World Champions Russia face off against the Dominican Republic. Despite the Dominican Ladies taking the first set by 25-21, the Russians came back to win the match by 3 sets to 1. The Group stage comprises of 6 teams and is a round robin event so all is not lost.
