UK - Air travellers in the UK are facing continuing disruption to their travel plans, despite the volcanic ash cloud flight ban being lifted. All UK airports closed due to the cloud have reopened, but as they try to get back to normal service passengers face continuing chaos. The flight ban put in place at Gatwick and Heathrow were lifted at 1100 BST.
On top of the chaos caused by Iceland´s volcano, British Airways is in court seeking an injunction to stop the latest round of strikes by its cabin staff. Upto 20 days of strikes by its cabin crew are due to start on Tuesday May 18th, and BA's chief executive Willie Walsh says he does not expect to make an agreement with unions in time to prevent the first strike going ahead. Airlines and travel agents alike are requesting that passengers check with their carriers prior to travelling to the airport to find out the status of their flights whether they be affected by the ash cloud or by the pending BA strike.
