The beaches in the Dominican Republic that have met all the international programmes criteria are: Playa Dorada beach, Puerto Plata in the north and Coson beach which is in Samana in the north east. In total there are now four beaches in the Dominican Republic that have The Blue Flag award with the first beach ever to achieve this accolade being Dominicus-Bayhibe in La Altragracia.
The National Competitiveness Council and the Environment Law Institute of the Dominican Republic are very proud of their latest results and have been working together to receive recognition from The Blue Flag scheme.

Two more beaches in the Dominican Republic have scooped the prestigious award of being given “Blue Flag” recognition. The Blue Flag is an eco label awarded to over 3,300 beaches and marinas in 36 countries around the world including Europe, South Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean. The Blue Flag programme is owned and run by an independent non profit organization called “Foundation for Environment Education” or the FEE. The Blue Flag carries a strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and other services.
