Twister Hits Dajabon Province

A powerful tornado touched down in a number of locations in the province of Dajabon yesterday leaving dozens injured and many homes leveled.

Twelve soldiers stationed on the border and three civilians were among the injured taken to the hospital in the city of Dajabon. Trees, billboards and light posts were brought down by the twister and travel in the area was disrupted.

The President has ordered aid agencies to immediately act to aid those affected and to assess the damage in the area. Ambulances and pre-made meals have been sent to the area according to the Health Ministry and a 9pm curfew has been imposed to prevent potential looting.

Dajabon is located about 300 kilometres northwest of Santo Domingo.
