The National Hurricane Center is predicting that Ike could become a Hurricane by Wednesday and although the Dominican Republic is not in the "eye's path", there will be alot of rain and winds accompanying Ike as it passes by.
Tropical Storm "Ike" Strengthens Over the Central Atlantic 2nd Update
The center of Tropical Storm Ike was located at 11.00am 02/09/08 at these co-ordinates: Latitude 18.9 North...Longitude 45.0 West or about 1110 Miles...1785 KM East of the Leeward Islands. Ike is moving towards the West (which is in a direction towards the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas) and will continue to do so over the next few days. By Sunday/Monday it should have reached the island chain of the Bahamas and have passed by over the top of the Dominican Republic.
