Before you enter the Dominican Republic whether by port or airports, all visitors to the island are required to fill out an embarkation/disembarkation form. The forms are usually given out on the airplane, however if not, don’t worry upon arrival into immigration they are on easy display and you can just pick one up.
Tourist Card
Prior to entering immigration the Dominican Republic all visitors are required to purchase a Tourist Card. This is where you need your $10US cash. It is essential that you have cash for this and you will need one tourist card per person in your party. Dominican pesos (local currency) cannot be used, neither can credit cards or Travelers cheques. (There will be ATM machines but they are on the “outside” of the airport and there fore cannot be reached).
Tourist Cards can be picked up near the immigration lines. One half is kept upon entry to the Dominican Republic and the other half is kept by yourself. You give up the remaining half when you leave the country, so please keep this safe or you will have to buy another one if you loose it.
Tourist Cards for the Dominican Republic are valid for up to 30 days.
