playa-dorada-flagThe Secretary of State for Tourism has reported that tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic grew by 6.09% in November over the same period last year, the result of two growths, that of non-resident aliens into the country, which rose 4.49% and the arrival of non resident Dominicans 16.67%.

Francisco Javier Garcia, speaking at the opening ceremony of the hotel Nouvelles Frontieres, in Uvero Alto, Punta Cana, reported that arrivals to the country has grown over the past three months, compared with three months of last year, which suggests that the recovery of the Dominican tourism industry has made a turn-about.

It was stated that last November, the country received  284824 tourists, surpassing arrivals in November 2008 by 16355 - equivalent to 6.09%. From these figures, 41167 were for non-resident Dominicans, with an increase this month of 4.49% compared to the same time in 2008.

The figures were prepared on data supplied by the Central Bank, the state agency that compiles the information from the amount of tourist arrivals to the country. Fernandez also said the behavior of arrivals to the Dominican Republic has shown steady growth in the last three months from September to November compared to the same period in 2008. "Everybody thought that to this date the Dominican Republic's tourism, the influx of tourists would be affected by a fall of 10 or 15%, reflecting strong economic crisis that hit the world last year, with implications this year, but it did not, because I see the difference compared with November 2008, which will give us a spectacular blue finish" he quoted.

He also said "The Dominican Republic is currently the leading region in the entire Caribbean area and is even considered one of the five most vibrant tourist regions around the world, being highlighted in major international journals, the results of which when you observe with who we are competing with that what we have here is a real gem."
