Tourism meeting to boost sector

Puerto Plata - During a meeting held at La Tarrapa Restaurant earlier this week, Dr Jose Natalio Redondo Galan, President of the tourist sector of Puerto Plata, reiterated the necessary boost the tourist city requires in order to keep it as a major destination in the Dominican Republic.

Jose Natalio mentioned that during the last 8 months a group of experts have been working with the tourism sector in Puerto Plata with the intent to contribute to make the city "THE" tourist destination on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. He also mentioned there have been many conferences, one of which named "Call to Reality" in which businessmen from the tourist market have been devising a strategic plan to implement in 2010 in the hope of bringing in more business and tourists alike. It was also discussed that a web page for the North Coast be devised and implemented as soon as possible in order to benefit the destination both nationally and internationally.

Only just a few weeks ago, representatives and businessmen of the tourist sector of Puerto Plata, met with President Leonel Fernandez in the National Palace - Santo Domingo, where they re-iterated the importance and necessity of a Tourist and Commercial sea port in Puerto Plata in order to create great benefits for the zone and indeed the country as a whole. Fernandez told the comittee from that there are in fact 16 different "offers" for the construction of this important infrastructure at this time and at anytime the Government will be awarding the contract to the winning bidder in order to start the construction of this much needed Tourist and Commercial port.
