A perfectly preserved lizard in amber is to be auctioned off this week at the Natural History Auction in Dallas by the Texas based Heritage Auction galleries. The fossilized lizard from the Dominican Republic is three and a half inches long and is the largest intact animal ever discovered in amber. It is expected to fetch in the region of $120,000. Also on sale is a prehistoric mastodon skull from Texas, a 26 pound gold nuggest from Mexico and a Chinese meteorite! Items are being sold off to help the museum's cash flow. The Dominican Republic's familiarity with fossilized creatures in amber can be remembered in the movie Jurassic Park, which used examples from the DR, as well as parts of the movie being filmed here.
