, the leading international gold mining company, who operates in this country announced their project: Pueblo Viejo Dominican Corporation (PVDC), and participated today in the informative lunch at the Canadian-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, where they presented Pueblo Viejo Project and announced that it will generate 3,500 jobs for its construction, more than 1,000 for operations during the next 20 years and thousands more according to its impact to the country’s economy.

The executive manager of Corporate Affairs of the mining company, Rodrigo Rivas, said that Barrick has promoted the responsible mining philosophy worldwide since last year in this country, and that it considers the use of proven technology, environmental management of excellence also a special care for the security of its employees and the contribution to the economic and social development of communities near to its operations.

Also Rivas declared that the PVDC is advancing towards a series of programs of communitarian improvement in subjects like health, employment, education, productive development, infrastructure, culture and traditions that seek for the benefit of the provinces of Sanchez Ramirez, Monsenor Nouel and Barahona.  These projects are executed with the collaboration of local and international authorities and the support of Provincial and Regional Directions of Public Health and Social Assistance, INFOTEP, the Civil Defense among others.

Offering details about communitarian programs, Rivas said that barrack in order to accomplish the commitment of prioritizing the local workers for the project, have started programs of professional development and training opportunities for the local communities, to prepare the residents to take advantage of approximately 3,500 jobs that we foresee we are going to be needing during the construction phase of the project.

“We expect that Pueblo Viejo hires approx 1,000 people during around 20 years of mining life that generates about 2,500 jobs.  This is the first step in a big effort that’s going to be executed in the zone in the years to come, during this time we expect participation of thousands of people,” continued Rivas.  “For this we are working with the collaboration of diverse institutions like INFOTEP, ITECO University and the Secretary of State for Education.”

More than 2,000 people mainly from Sanchez Ramirez province especially from Cotui had participated in the programs of qualification in the induction to industrial discipline that this mining company develops, which will give Pueblo Viejo inhabitants abilities to be suited for diverse industrial initiatives in the zone.
