A man was able to stop burglars from breaking into his home - by using his iPhone while more than 1,400 miles away from his house.

icam-appVince Hunter, from Dallas in the US, used an iphone application that cost him US$4 called iCam that allowed him to monitor his home security system.

Motion sensors picked up the movements of two burglars at his home in Dallas and the app sent him a text immediately. As he received the text, he was able to connect into his home security system while at his parents house in Conneticut, some 1,400 miles way, and see everything that was happening right there on his iPhone.

It showed 2 men wearing gloves peering through his patio windows before a brick was thrown at the glass to break it. With all this going on, Hunter called the police and his home security system automatically dialled 911 when the window icam-app2shattered.

As Hunter continued watching on his iPhone he saw Dallas police entering the house with their guns drawn but the two raiders, who are believed to be responsible for a spate of burglaries in the area, fled empty handed.

The iCam application allows him to watch the video feed live from anywhere in the world and he was actually filling his car up with petrol when he received a text message from iCam alerting him to movement outside his home.

Police said they hoped to use the video camera footage to track down the burglars.
