What does this mean? More people are discovering that the Dominican Republic is a great budget vacation place, a short flight from Miami and New York, slightly longer from Canada but all within a few hours of snow escapage and bring on the sun atmosphere!
5 Point Plan
1. Shop around on the internet for your flights and accommodation. Keep a regular check on your favorite sites as deals will sometimes only come in for a 24hr stop sale period, if it looks good then book it!
2. Many of the all-inclusive hotels in the north Puerto Plata and the east Punta Cana will offer week bargain breaks, some as cheap as an extra 50U$ for your accommodation, including a meal programme. It might not be the hotel will all the 5 star facilities, but generally the all-inclusive hotels are no lower than a 3 star and offer good rooms, a reasonable variety of restaurants and most are located or are beach fronted properties.
3. Prices will automatically go up during school vacation periods, so if you are able to travel around “peak” times this will considerably bring your holiday cost down.
4. Book your excursions/trips on line before coming into resort. This will cut out a lot of extra’s as you are dealing directly with the excursion provider so there is no middle man to pay. Click here for great tour/excursion ideas.
5. Don’t over-pack and have to pay extra baggage allowance. The Dominican Republic is a pretty laid back place, .shorts, t-shirts, flip flops are all acceptable, just bring one formal outfit or long pants/dress for “special restaurants” within the all-inclusive hotels as shorts generally are a no no.
You seriously cannot beat the Dominican Republic for price, value and weather. With a tropical climate prevailing 365 days a year, beautiful coastlines and stunning scenery it’s no wonder the DR is the most popular Caribbean island! Get surfing the net and find out for yourselves!

The Dominican Republic has some startling great budget deals if you take the time to shop and look around. With the majority of people now using internet booking sites the competition is fierce as Winter season or High Season in the Dominican Republic approaches. JetBlue has now added another airport to its growing list in the DR, with direct flights from JFK now coming into Puerto Plata’s International Airport in January 2008, and WestJet flying from Canada will be commencing in December 2007.
