Teething problems for Dominican gold mine

Pueblo Viejo Gold Mine in Dominican RepublicThe Dominican Republic is well known for the richness of it’s natural resources.  An old gold mine has recently been reopened by mining company Barrick who expect to extract 18.1 million ounces of gold from the project.  It is anticipated that the cost of mining the gold will be in the region of 2.3 billion U$. This will be one of the largest foreign investment projects to be undertaken here in the Dominican Republic. Unfortunately construction within the mine is undergoing some technical difficulties due to the power requirements needed to comply with regulation safety requirements.
