Dominican slugger Sammy Sosa has been added to the 40 player roster of the Texas Rangers and could play in the first game of the season.
General Manager Jon Daniels said, "Sammy could be in the team. He has demonstrated great quality with his bat, which he has wielded with speed. He can run well. He is doing everything that we anticipated and he does them very well." He added that although it is only spring training, "he has demonstrated much more than we expected."
The Rangers made the announcement just minutes before Sosa hit his third homerun of spring training off a pitch by Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Edgar González.
