Ruling party PLD sweeps the board

election-resultsSanto Domingo - In the Congressional elections held on Sunday May 16th, The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) won in 31 provinces out of 32, the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) in one and the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) has not won any - This all being reported by the JCE in their bulletin number 11 issued at 11pm on Monday May 17th.

The PRSC won the senate of the province La Altagracia (Which includes the Bavaro and Punta Cana areas) with 40.74% 27.026 votes, against 24.944, 37.60% of the PLD, and 11.785 votes (17.76%) of the PRD. In the same bulletin issued by the JCE, it reports that at the municipal level the PLD won 91 municipalities, while the PRD had registered 58, the PRSC is maintained with four, and the Popular Christian Party (PPC) and Christian Democratic Union (UDC), with one each.

This could have changed, maybe more significantly then may be not, had it not been for the massive abstention of voters. The JCE has estimated that only 58% of registered voters actually the participated in the voting showing an abstention of 42%.  According to estimates 2,568,886 voters of the 6,116,397 registered abstained while 3,547,510 voted.
