Rio Group Meeting Being Held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

outer space pic of Latin America & CaribbeanThe Rio Group's National Coordinators are holding a two day meeting in Santo Domingo the capital of the Dominican Republic, starting today Monday, as part of bringing together officials from 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries.  The Rio Group is a dialogue mechanism aimed at boosting agreements and political cooperation in matters of mutual interest for Latin America and the countries of the Caribbean.

The Dominican Foreign Minister (as pro-temp secretary) is hosting the meeting which aims to address and assess progress on matters like the environment, energy, security and poverty.

The group as a whole will be planning the agenda for the up coming sixty second United Nations General Assembly to be held in September.  The Coordinators will meet again in the Dominican Republic before the end of 2007 to plan for the Rio Group's Heads of State and or government Summit which will be in March 2008.
