Reforestation in the Dominican North

In an attempt to remedy past deforestation practices in the northern region of the Dominican Republic, the Cibao Ecological Society (SOECI) will begin planting 100,000 endemic and native trees in various areas of the Northern Mountain Range.

SOECI will distribute the trees among organizations participating in the reforestation program and planting will begin on Wednesday in the Diego de Ocampo Peak and the Jacagua River basin.

The varieties of trees to be planted are walnut, mahogany, cedar, olive, Creole oak and almond.
