Raining Dominicans in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo - Yesterday, at the Malecon in Santo Domingo, it didnt really rain...it rained Dominicans! The National Carnival Parade was held with the most diverse cultural display of more than 180 different creative themes and full of color carnival, music, history, fantasy, humor and an exuberant display of joy.The carnival, organized by the National Folklore Committee, started just after 3:00 pm, and the sidewalks and streets leading to the malecon were filled with a lively audience.
The applause and shouts of observers went to the passing alternating representations of Alibaba, Robalagallina, Diablo, Papeluces, Piglets, Hiver, Quemao, and other characters.
The party did not lack those who regularly take the opportunity to criticize the political reality of the country with various people dressing up as some of the countries most wanted fugitives and law makers.
A team of 3,500 police and military was responsible for maintaining order and security while "Dancing in the Street" written by Luis Dias (Terror) was performed with the whips and inflamed vejigazos (inflated pigs bladders).
Good weather helped the programed activities with the only rain being the colors and dances that were going on until 9:00 pm, when the troupes of the National District closed the meeting.
This year's National Carnival Parade was dedicated to Santo Domingo, as the American Capital of Culture.
