Proposed new train link

ImageSANTIAGO - The sub-director of the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret), Leonel Carrasco, laid out a railroad project that would link Santo Domingo and Santiago last yesterday. The project will be financed with both public and private investments.

The project presented was one of a combined freight and passenger service that will cover 126km with cruising speeds of 220kph and a maximum velocity of 250kph.

The train project will include two tunnels, steel bridges, overpasses, stations and terminals in several industrial parks.

Carrasco maintained that one of the transfer terminals will be in Los Alcarrizos and the other will branch out to the Port of Haina and the others will be in Villa Altagracia, Bonao, La Vega and Santiago.
