Promised Aid on the way to Haiti

red cross flagPort au Prince, Haiti - Countries and aid agencies around the world jumped into action yesterday to promise relief and aid to Haiti after the powerful earthquake which devastated the capital, leaving tens of thousands of people homeless and descending the Haitian Capital into chaos.

The United States, several European and Latin American countries, the International Red Cross, the Ibero-American Secretariat (SEGIB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) announced the shipment of money, food, volunteers, firefighters, experts and even specialized search dogs.

The U.S. president Barack Obama pledged an intervention "fast" to save lives in Haiti and instructed the government to act in a coordinated and vigorous manner. The Pentagon has already begun sending boats, teams and experts.

An Airbus aircraft with 70 members of civil security left France to Port Au Prince yesterday, in addition to 3 military transport planes with numerous people on board along with humanitarian supplies. Aid flights are also leaving the UK, but have been delayed due to the adverse weather conditions in London“s Gatwick airport.
