Proceedings also included a speech from Minister of Tourism for the Dominican Republic Francisco Javier Garcia, who confirmed again the general intent to boost tourism on the north coast of the Dominican Republic which has seen a decline in numbers primarily due to the popularity of other destinations within the island such as Bavaro and Punta Cana. Ironically there has never been a better time to visit the north coast of the Dominican Republic, the beaches are more beautiful than they ever have been and definitely are not crowded, the town of Puerto Plata is neat, tidy and cleaner than it has been for years. The famous Malecon is once again becoming quite a center for social activity, as a place to exercise, or just to relax in one of the beach bars overlooking the ocean and watch the world go by. Puerto Plata is a fascinating town and is steeped in history, rather than being a resort that has developed and grown by tourism alone, as such it has retained it's true Dominican nature and culture. As a base the resorts of Cofresi, Costa Dorada, Playa Dorada, Sosua and Cabarete are perfect for enjoying a typically relaxing Caribbean vacation at reasonable prices, alternatively there are also a fantastic selection of adventure tours, cultural excursions, eco tours and local attractions to tickle your fancy and to make sure your stay here in the Dominican Republic is a memorable one.

President Leonel Fernandez yesterday headed the formal inauguration ceremony of the newly refurbished and revamped hotel property Be Live Grand Carey.
