Manuel Pereyra who is a well known environmentalist and lobbyist with regard to climate change has accused President Leonel Fernandez of apathy with regard to global environmental issues.  The ruling PLD party has a programme in place specifically to help reduce the Dominican carbon footprint, however this has yet to be applied. Given the location of the island Pereyra is asking that the Dominican people double their efforts in playing their part to redress the global climate change by conserving natural resources and showing respect for the environment.
