POP & SDQ Airports to be expanded
Dominican Airports Siglo XXI (AERODOM) are to undertake the redevelopment of the South Terminal of the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ-MDSD) in Santo Domingo and also General Gregorio Luperon in Puerto Plata (POP-MDPP) at a cost of more than US$27 million.Raul Berroeta, executive director of the Airport Las Americas, said at a news conference that the work of renovation of both terminals will begin within 20 days and will be implemented without affecting daily operaciones and is expected to take between 18-24 months.
The redevelopment of the South Terminal of Las Americas includes all areas, including the facade of the airport counters, duty free areas, offices and public entities and private security agencies. With Puerto Plata, it is more of a case of finishing the work on expanding the terminal and arrivals area that has already started but been on hold for several months.
It is expected that with the expansion and remodeling of Las Americas, the finished product will double the capacity for aircraft and passengers.
The work will be undertaken by Ortega y Asociados Frank Construction and Armenteros and Associates will be responsible for the implementation of the refurbishment and expansion.
