world-cup-soccer At US$75 a shirt, they are not cheap, but look out for the 9 World Cup Teams who will be playing football in South Africa this year with their new shirts - made entirely from recycled plastic bottles...

Yup, this is not an April Fool, it´s the real deal. Yesterday Nike announced that teams including Brazil, Portugal, USA, South Korea, Australia and the Netherlands will be wearing their new footie shirts made entirely from 100% polyester.

Each environmentally friendly shirt will be made from up to 8 recycled plastic bottles. Nike announced that the manufacture of the shirts this way has prevented almost 13million used plastic bottles from clogging up land fill waste sites.

The 2010 team shirts "ingredients" were sourced from landfill sites in Taiwan and Japan, they are then melted down to give a new yarn which was then converted to fabric for the shirts. This process uses almost 30% less energy consumption than when making virgin polyester.
