Plans for Easter Week
SANTO DOMINGO - With more than 39,000 volunteers from different official institutions, 9 regional command and control centers, 127 ambulances, over 2,400 aid stations on the main highways and toll roads of the country, the Center for Emergency Operations (COE) will begin Thursday 1st April its annual plan to reduce the amount of incidents and accidents during the celebration of Holy WeekThis is a time in which thousands of persons take their vacations and enjoy the long weekend.
The plan begins on Thursday 1 April, beginning at 2:00 p.m., and will end on Sunday, 4 April at 10:00 p.m. when the personnel and equipment will be withdrawn. As of Thursday, April 1st, heavy duty trucks and trailers are prohibited on the highways, except those carrying food and fuel, which must be properly identified. There will also be a large AMET presence on the highways in order to prevent people with motorcycles from racing and that they abide by the law by wearing helmets.
Also sending out a message to the general public, is the Sectretario de Medio Ambiente (Environment Minister) requesting that drivers and vacationers alike, please dispose of their trash properly and not on to the streets, beaches and rivers where they cause more damage.
