This week saw the commencement of the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Dominican Republic started well with a win in Tae Kwon Do for Gabrielle Mercedes. Yudelkis Contreras managed gold and a succession of Pan American records in women’s weightlifting. The Dominican Republic already has 5 medals in the first two days of the games. The Last Pan American games saw the Dominican women’s volleyball team win the gold in an enthralling match. Let’s hope that they can do it again this time round.
