The minister of tourism will preside overall however the organisation will also include the head of Public Works and also the head of the National Potable Water Institure (INAPA).
The Senate passed the bill this Tuesday and it now goes to the Chamber of Deputies, and finally onto the President himself Leonel Fernandez who will sign it into Law.

INDETUR's functions and duties will range from the elaboration and approval of its annual operating budget, to designationg its officials and administrative personnel. Its main purpose is the planning and development of the tourist regions and the infastructure within these regions. Also to promote and develope a complementary lodging offer.




With the onset of the new National Tourism Development Institute (INDETUR) commencing operation this brings a more active role for the private sector in the Dominican Republic's tourism industry and all public policy making decisions. The organisation which was conceived by the Executive Branch is still pending congressional approval will have two representatives from the National Hotel and Restaurant Association and also from the Dominican Association of Tourism Real Estate Companies (ADETI) in its governing board.
