New IKEA store to open in Feb
So...You like shopping? Well, get ready for the opening of the brand new IKEA mega store in Santo Domingo.Yup, next month, the Swedish franchise is opening up a US$65 million mega store in the Dominican Republic´s capital, Santo Domingo.
The development of the store was by Grupo Modesto, and it built on a 80,000 sq metre area, will have 1200 parking spaces, a "market hall" of 4,490 sq metres, huge warehouse, self service area, exhibition area and a restaurant with a capacity for 850 people plus a kids play area.
The store is said to be providing upto 400 jobs for the area and is set to strengthen the already shopping mecca of Santo Domingo.
During the construction, there has been a little nervousness from the local neighborhood as they were worried about the high tension power lines that provide power for the store, but after much negotiating and engineer studies, said power lines have now been placed underground.
So, bring your credit cards or cash, and get ready for some serious shopping!!!
