New Dominican Republic Airline to Commence in May
New Air Dominicana will begin its operations in May with flights to the United States, Mexico and South America, hoping to later expand to other world wide destinations in what Dominican government officials and business leaders say it’s vital for the growth of tourism in the DR. Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez said yesterday that the arrival of the first airplane, a Boeing 737 with a seating capacity of 180 passengers is expected to arrive in April.
By the end of the year he said that two other planes will arrive another Boeing 737 and also a 767 which is hoping to cover European routes. According to magazine Mercado, foreign investors own 47% of the new carrier’s shares, the State has 30% and local investors have 23%.
