Some areas especially around the nations capital, Santo Domingo, have a heavier deployment of police and military to safe guard against violence on the streets during today's strike, which is being organised by the umbrella group called the Alternative Social Forum.
The Presidencial Press Director Mr. Rafael Nunez said that the government will maintain it's effors to continue with a peaceful dialogue. He said this morning "If they (the strikers) are determined to stage their strike so be it, then we will do everything to guarantee order and public peace."
If you must travel through the country today expect to see deserted streets and highways, be aware that most local and private transport companies will not be running today. Alot of shops/supermarkets will also be closed and try to avoid major towns especially as darkness arrives. It is not advisable to drive through the night this evening.




Bernardo Santana who is the National Chief of Police for the Dominican Republic has ordered the deployment of police reinforcements as well as being backed by the Dominican Military for today's planned national strike. Already at 6.00am this morning military and police were in place by bridges and lining the streets across the country to guarantee order during the strike.
