More gold for Dominican athletes
The Dominican delegation that participated in the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico joined a number of inexperienced young people seeking their first days of glory...and they succeeded! Many had their doubts about what the results could have been, but balance more toward a positive charge than negative paid off. When the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Lic Luisín Mejía revealed that 60% of Dominican athletes would go to the games for the first time in a Central American competition, many of them took the news with a pinch of salt.
But, the challenge was launched, and there was no way to look back.
In Tae Kwon Do, at 63 kilos, Dominican Jairo Rijo defeated Guatemalan Federico Rosal, to win the gold medal and leave the silver for his opponent, while Jocelyn Joseph fgrom Haiti, won the bronze medal.
The other gold medal was won by Dominican Daisy Montes de Oca, who won the 73 kilos category against Guadalupe Ruiz of Mexico, and the bronze went to Katherine Alvarado of Costa Rica.
