President of the Dominican Republic Leonel Fernandez has announced today that he will take the first official ride on board the new Santo Domingo Metro which is scheduled to take it's test run on February 27th 2008.  The Metro will travel an unspecified distance for the test run although it has a route of some 17 kilometers.  The controversial Metro which has cost the Dominican Repubic millions in dollars was defended by the President who vowed that it would be ready to run exactly to the date last year Feb 2007.
