Less than 24 hours after civil society’s presentation of 30 anti-corruption proposals, President Leonel Fernandez spoke to the press to clarify his belieifs of the current Dominican Government. He denied the Government system promotes corruption and insisted “I’ve always said that phenomenon doesn’t exist in the Dominican Republic, there’s no organized system to promote corruption, it doesn’t exist, what we may have, can have like any place in the world are individuals who separately incur in corruption actions violatory of the Constitution and the laws of the Republic, that phenomenon does exist, but it’s different from a system of hypercorruption of an organized system.”
Leonel also promised to monitor and promote the 30 new proposals that were created at his own request.
