Eleven Iraqis transiting through the Dominican Republic from Haiti are currently being detained for security reasons and questioned by Dominican government security officials and United States Embassy officials.
The Iraqis, including 2 pregnant women and a 3 year old boy, had a travel itinerary that included Venezuela, Colombia, Curaçao and Argentina but did not have proper visas to enter those countries.
They are being held at the Quality Hotel near Las Americas International Airport and will in all likelihood be deported as quickly as possible.
