british-airwaysLondon - Holiday plans and business travel were in limbo last night after British Airways announced a further 20 days of strikes. The airlines cabin crew union, Unite, reported that it has balloted its members once more, and after 12,000 ballots, 81% of cabin crew rejected the latest offer of improved pay and working conditions from the airline.

The new wave of strikes have been announced for four five-day walk-outs: from next Tuesday until Saturday, May 22; from May 24 to 28; from May 30 to June 3; from June 5 to 9. The strikes will cause havoc once more for travellers but British Airways has said they intend to stick as close as possible to their long haul schedule by leasing aircraft and purchasing extra seats from other airlines.

The news of the newly announced BA strikes comes hundreds of flights were cancelled yesterday with airports in Scotland, Portugal, Germany, Spain and Italy closed due to the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland and today dozens moreĀ  were cancelled as the cloud continued to wreak havoc over European airspace and drifted over Spain and Portugal, and further east over France.
