Hip-hop star to run for Haitian Presidency
Port-au-Prince, Haiti - On Tuesday Eric Jean-Jacques, former leader of the House of Representatives reported that singer Wyclef Jean is about to announce his candidacy for the presidency of Haiti. Jean-Jacques reported to the Associated Press that the hip hop artist will run as part of his coalition in the November elections and that an announcment will be made on Thursday night.
Jean-Jacques is seeking to return to the Chamber of Deputies in the elections, and confirmed that he will be eligible as part of a new coalition called "Ansanm Nou Fo" in Creole which translates as "Together we are strong." Wyclef Jean in Haiti is famous for his music and the work on the charity "Yele Haiti", which has raised millions of dollars following the earthquake on Jan. 12.
