Financial damage to the country's plantain, rice and banana crops could exceed RD$400 million in the aftermath or recent continuous heavy rains.

Agriculture Minister Salvador Jimenez has said that about 115,000 tareas have been affected in the Cibao region but that the crop damage should not result in higher prices as production this year has already been above average.

Agricultural sectors will receive RD$450 million of the funds allocated by President Fernandez for flood relief.
