Fred Couples wins Cap Cana Championship
Cap Cana - American Fred Couples made history yesterday when he won in his debut appearance in the The Cap Cana Championship. Not only did he lift the trophy, he also bagged US$240,000 prize money. He also broke the course record, completeing his round in 62 stokres, 1 stroke less than Corey Pavins previous record of 63. A run of five birdies and another 4 were the winning combinationy for Couples who raced from third place early yesterday and eventually displace Corey Pavin and Nick Price.
The trio teed off at 11:15 yesterday morning and it was not until the 14th hole where Couples made his charge. Pavin made a mistake by hitting the ball into the water and, then a bunker to put himself in a situation from which he could never recover.
Couples finished the tournament in just 62 strokes and 21 under par, Pavin was second 19 under with Price in third, 13 under. He received his check for US$240,000 from Ricardo Hazoury, president of Board of Directors of Cap Cana
