Flood alert is to continue as yet again the latest tropical depression approaches the Dominican Republic.  The Emergency Operations Center of COE, has decided to keep 17 provinces in total on full flood alert because of their geographical vulnerability flooding and mudslides.

The problem according to the COE is that the ground is already heavily waterlogged as a result of recent rains and this increases the risks for people and communities living close to rivers, streams and gullies.

Flood Alert Provinces are:La Vega, La Romana, El Seibo, La Altagracia, Santo Domingo, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macoris and Duarte (especially the Bajo Yuna vicinity).

Green Alert Provinces are:Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Puerto Plata, Salcedo, Espaillat, Samana, Dajabon, Elias Pina, San Juan de la Maguana and Santiago.

People residing in the Dominican Republic are being advised to follow the regularly issued bulletins from the emergency rescue services, so they can avoid any possible disasters.

Sailors and cruisers are being advised to take the necessary precautions due to the possibility of high waves and strong winds.

He had this to say on Monday morning with his cuppa “Looking at the satellite picture there is a tropical wave at 46W, 15N, that is reasonably formed and has a lot of precipitation (that means rain to us) it is moving in a westwards direction and is a long way away from us at the moment, so you needn’t start looking for your umbrellas for at least a couple of days yet….”
