One of the reasons the Dominican Republic is attracting families, is the number of all-inclusive hotels and resorts offering a range of activities from snorkeling to scuba lessons, golf and teenage only lounges! For families that like to stay put during a vacation then with “small kid” only swimming pools, a hectic & busy day of sports filled activities for younger children and older beach activities and on resort discos for moochie teenagers then everyone and thing is kept “in-resort” so to speak.
The Dominican Republic is not a small island, with Puerto Plata on the north coast offering a brilliant infrastructure and Punta Cana offering 5 star accommodations, think about what you want and where exactly you and your family need to be.
Club Med in Punta Cana has recently opened the “Ramp” in their resort in the east of the Dominican Republic. The Ramp is an exclusive two storey open air lounge, only for guests between 14 to 17 years of age. The Ramp has a space for inline skating, football area, skate boarding and telescopes for Caribbean star gazing! With plenty of space for teenagers to simply hang out and make friends there’ll be no need for them to be sneaking off to the Casino to try and get in!
Many of the Punta Cana resorts are following suit, which is good planning as far as many families are concerned as we all know Happy Kids make for a Happy Holiday!

For the average family with young kids and a couple of picky teenage travelers, the mere thought of planning and the actual act of even flying to a Caribbean destination is normally enough to render everyone back to camping or staying at Grandma’s house again! The Dominican Republic however is gaining a solid reputation as a family destination. One reason being is that many other “remote” Caribbean islands involve numerous flight changes, however for the DR whether you are State or Europe side, there are now many non stop flights to choose from.
