Europe is back in business

heathrow-reopensAll European airports have at long last reopened for business one week after the cloud of ash from an Icelandic volcano paralysed the industry. It is expected that 75% of European flights are due to operate on Wednesday, as reported by Eurocontrol.

Delays are to be expected though as the airlines try and cope with the backlog from the cancellation of 95,000 flights and having their aircraft displaced around the globe. IATA has estimates that the costs to the industry US$1.7bn


The first flight to arrive in the UK was a British Airways flight at 2200hrs (2100gmt) on Tuesday evening from Vancouver and airlines have now begun the huge task of working through the backlog to get stranded passengers to their destinations.

It is still recommended that passengers check with their airlines or via the internet prior to travel as long lines are expected at airport check-in desks as normalcy returns
