Planned some 10 years ago, construction of an energy corridor, or transmission network, that will insure the country's northern region has permanent energy has finally begun.

The project, initiated by The Dominican Energy Consortium (CDEEE) and funded by three international banks in the amount of €124 million (almost RD$5 billion), is being constructed by Elecnor de España and the German firm Siemens and is expected to be built over the next two years.

Expected to be the most impressive transmission network in the Caribbean region, the network will span 60 towers measuring 50-60 meters long and encompass 348,000 transmission watts as well as 138,000 watts that are linked into 2 substations to be included in the project.

Funding was provided by the Central Deutsche Bank (two credits of €25 million and €40), the Deutsche Bank of Italy (€25 million) and a German bank (€34).
