Emotional Mickleson wins 3rd Masters

phil-micklesonGolf - An emotional Phil Mickelson put on the famous Green Jacket for the 3rd time this Sunday after claiming the Masters trophy and beating the UK´s Lee Westwood by 3 shots.

Mickelson, who is currently ranked the World´s no 3 in golf, took command of the course on the back 9 and pulled clear of Westwood and some other serious contenders to finish his final round on 67 strokes. He finished the 18th with an impressive 12 foot birdie and a standing ovation from the strong crowd.

He celebrated almost immediately by hugging his wife, who has been fighting breast cancer making this victory more special for him and his family.

Mickelson finished the tournament 16 under par with a score of 272, while Lee Westwood, who struggled managed a 13 under par with a score of 275.

Other notables were American Anthony Kim  who impressed the field with an amazing 7 under 65 round to finish 12 under.Tiger Woods finished tied for fourth on 11 under with Korea's KJ Choi after a final round 69, finishing 18th with a birdie. Woods´chances of a 15th major crown and a dream comeback were dashed after he dropped 3 shots in the first 5 holes - he did make an impressive turnaround, but not quite enogh.
