Easter Weekend Claims 28 Dominican Lives

According to the Emergency Operations Center the COE, so far,  28 deaths have been reported over the long Easter weekend.  Figures are down from last year, when at the same time of year 36 deaths were reported.

A total of 460 people were affected over the long weekend and that alcohol was involved in 80% of the cases.  17 people were killed in auto accidents while 6 deaths were put down to drowning.

Most accidents occured from Thursday to Sunday with 200 auto accidents of which 148 were motorcycle related.  The regions affected mostly by collisions were Santo Domingo, the nations capital, San Cristobol and regions in and around Santiago.
